Never Mind The Bike Shops Supported schemes

Cycle to Work

Cycle to Work is a government-backed salary sacrifice scheme that lets eligible PAYE employees save up to 40% on a bike and accessories by paying monthly from gross salary (reducing tax and National Insurance). We support Cycle to Work customers across Manchester, South Manchester, Stockport and Greater Manchester, working with employers and riders throughout the UK. We’ll help you choose the right bike first—then the best-value scheme your employer offers.

At Never Mind The Bike Shops, we work with all major Cycle to Work providers, helping riders across Manchester, South Manchester, Greater Manchester, and Stockport choose the right bike first, then the most cost-effective scheme to pay for it. It is one of the few government-backed schemes that directly subsidises everyday transport, making cycling significantly more affordable.

Your new Bike – Your Cycle to Work Savings Estimates!

So, what are the real savings and what is this actually going to cost me ? Simple really, provide your annual salary and the amount your are planning to spend on your bike and accessories such as lights, pannier racks, clothing, helmets and even stands and the below calculators should give you a monthly cost over the 12 months while you pay off your new bike.

Recommended calculators

We recommend starting with schemes that prioritise low fees and maximum employee value to get you a better deal and support vital local bike shops like ours:

Green Commute Initiative calculator

A Not-for-profit provider with no £1,000 cap, and no end-of-scheme ownership fees. More details on this scheme here.

GoGetta calculator

Designed with no unnecessary middlemen and lease buyout fees, meaning lower costs. More details on this scheme here.

That should give you a good idea, but some employers have signed up to schemes that insist on end of lease buy out payments – giving you less value. We will help you through this process, but rest assured we work with every provider and you will always save money buying a bike this way regardless of what scheme your employer is with.

For most employees, schemes such as Green Commute Initiative or GoGetta deliver the best overall value, due to lower fees, clearer ownership terms, and fewer deductions from the bike’s price.

How Cycle to Work Salary Sacrifice Works

Salary sacrifice means you agree to give up a small portion of your gross salary each month in exchange for a bike, reducing the tax and National Insurance you pay and lowering the overall cost.

Although providers differ in detail, most schemes follow the same basic steps:

Choose your bike and accessories

In-store or online, from our full eligible range.

Employer issues a Cycle to Work voucher

Via their chosen provider.

We supply and prepare the bike

Redeeming the voucher and setting the bike up properly.

You repay via salary sacrifice

Monthly deductions from gross pay, reducing tax and NI.

Savings depend on income band and scheme structure, but the outcome is almost always better value than retail purchase. In the rare case it isn’t, we will always guide you to the best-value finance option available.

Why Cycle to Work Is Such Good Value

—Significant savings through salary sacrifice
—Access to our full eligible bike range
—Professional setup and ongoing local support
—Lower commuting costs and improved wellbeing

For employers, it also supports staff retention, health, and sustainability goals.

Why the Choice of Provider Matters

Not all Cycle to Work schemes are the same, some providers operate fair, low-fee models that benefit employees, employers, and local bike shops. Higher-fee schemes ultimately remove money from the local cycling economy, which makes it harder for independent bike shops to survive and continue supporting local riders.

We actively support schemes such as Green Commute Initiative and GoGetta and are happy to advise your employer on why this works better for you, your employer, your bike shop and Greater Manchester. Call us, we won’t bite you - 07940859672

Cycle to Work FAQs

Can I use Cycle to Work on any bike?

Most schemes allow use across commuter, gravel, road, and selected e-bikes, plus safety accessories.

Is there still a £1,000 limit?

Not legally, not since lockdown, there was talk of a limit being imposed in this years budget, the cycle industry got together and lobbied hard to stop this daft anti bike and anti planet move coming to fruition. However some employers and schemes retain their own limits.

What happens at the end of the scheme?

End-of-scheme terms vary. We explain ownership options clearly before you proceed.

Can you help my employer choose a scheme?

Yes. We regularly advise employers on fair, cost-effective Cycle to Work providers.
