Broadstone Community Bikes

Properly Refurbished second hand bikes that get you riding — and give young people real skills along the way.

Broadstone Community Bikes is a long-running partnership between Never Mind The Bike Shops in Stockport and Broadstones School - Reddish, supporting young people who learn best through practical, hands-on work rather than purely academic routes. We’ve been working together since 2021, refurbishing hundreds of donated bikes as part of an alternative education pathway that builds confidence, real skills, and meaningful experience fixing bikes properly.

Bikes are brought back into safe, usable condition and passed on at genuinely affordable prices, while around 50 students have been trained in basic cycle mechanics. Every bike you see here has been refurbished to a proper bike-shop standard by young people learning under close professional supervision. These are straightforward, entry-level bikes designed to get you riding reliably, without spending a fortune.

Bikes are listed by age range and intended use, but don’t hang around, bikes come and go quickly as work progresses at the school. You can buy online, but the best route is often to choose a bike or two that appeals and give us a call — Bikes can be viewed and collected either via our Stockport (Reddish) or Manchester shops on request. So you can see it, try it, and make sure it’s right for you. If you’re looking for a higher-end or performance-focused second-hand bike, head to our Approved Used Bikes section here instead. This page is about accessible bikes, fair prices, and a project that genuinely puts something back into Stockport.

FAQs

1) Are the Broadstone Community Bikes stored at your shop?

No, they are stored at Broadstoness School in Reddish, Stockport. Never Mind The Bike Shops works in partnership with Broadstones School.. Bikes can also be transferred to either of our shops including the Manchester shop for no obligation viewings.

2) Are these bikes checked by professional mechanics?

Yes. While students carry out the refurbishment work as part of their training, every bike is completed under close supervision and signed off to a proper bike-shop safety standard by a Cytech qualified mechanic before being made available for sale.

3) Can I see or try a bike before buying?

Yes — and we recommend it. The easiest approach is to choose a bike and give us a call. We can arrange for it to be brought into one of our Manchester or Stockport shops so you can see it, try it, and make sure it’s the right fit.

4) How often does stock change?

Stock changes regularly as bikes are donated, refurbished, and signed off. If you don’t see something suitable today, it’s worth checking back or getting in touch to see what’s coming through. Feel free to text us on 07940859672 with height and intended use and we can get back to you. But it’s definitely worth checking in every so often as just because we haven’t got something suitable today, doesn’t mean we won’t have something suitable tomorrow!

5) Are these the same as your Approved Used bikes?

No. Broadstone Community Bikes are entry-level, community-focused bikes offered at lower prices. If you’re looking for higher-end or performance-focused second-hand bikes, you’ll want to visit our Approved Used Bikes section instead.

6) Why does Never Mind The Bike Shops run this project?

We don’t have external shareholders and we want to do some good. The project gives young people practical skills, confidence, and real work experience, while also keeping good bikes in use and making cycling more accessible locally. It’s about skills, access, and doing something genuinely useful in the community.
